About Us

Evansville Wartime Museum is the place to visit for the surprising, interesting and world-changing story of our community’s involvement in winning WWII. The stories we tell come from home front workers and battlefront warriors — these are the people who were there. You can also explore the history of Evansville during WWI, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War in our exhibits dedicated to those times.

Our Mission

Acquire, preserve and interpret historical artifacts and educate all ages by telling how industry, homefront workers and military veterans supported our nation in times of conflict.

Our Vision

An internationally-recognized military museum as a destination, that educates and inspires others by honoring those at home and abroad who sacrificed and toiled for the furtherance of freedom in the world.

According to the National Park Service designation and website:

“World War II changed Evansville into a leading defense manufacturer, resulting in 80 factories transitioning to war production and manufacturing 330 different goods for the war effort. The military recognized the high production levels achieved by awarding 15 businesses in the region with Army-Navy “E” Awards. Factories recruited thousands of workers to meet high demand. As a result, employment dramatically increased from 18,000 in 1940 to 60,000 by the middle of the war.”
